Longparish CC Newsletter October 2015

October 2015
Presentation Evening
Will be discussed presently, but first a word from Pavlov's Dog
All I can hear is the wind shouting through the forest,All I can hear is the sun as its shining
Not that one, wait,    you can hear the sun?      now let me see, ah yes.
Make believe you're a dancer,Though perhaps you make a better queen

That's it, There's many a cricketer who've butchered a Botofoga, so we'll have no accusations of effete (this bit may be wrong and Botofoga may have played in goal for Uruguay and not been slain in a hail of bullets in a shootout with a band of wicketkeepers, we don't know, but Wikipedia may provide some clarity at this point), but can we all just take a minute to wallow in the reverie of dance and hail the genius of Winkleman. We'll start this Newsletter in a minute, but there now follows an appeal on behalf of the "Let's get Dave Arch a proper pair of headphones with speakers on both ears" fund. I know there's an austerity on, but it's shameful that in a G8 country one of the nation's finest musical entertainers is forced to go about his business in half a pair of headphones. It is clear that behind the monitor he stands shoeless next to a thin dog, and several carrier bags containing what remains of a life on the fringe of prog rock.  Glenn Ponder is quick to acknowledge Dave's influence, and hey Old Heads, let's not forget where Greg Lake sought solace when ELP went pop and he was contemplating a dearth of snow and peace one Christmas after Keith Emerson had the hump. Dave Arch's plight serves as a symbol of an uncaring society, and it is widely accepted within dance circles that at the end of each show when Dave shuffles over, shoeless, to move among the audience, with his plastic cup it is Tess,(allegedly) who snatches the cup away with a "don't give him anything he doesn't need it he's got a bag full of stuff under his organ" for no fan of prog rock is she. Dave Arch is a true victim of the age, please make all cheques payable to "Putting Dave Arch Back on his Feet Again" or PUDABOFA for short and lest get him back in some stereo cans.

In an effort to recall what happened at Presentation Evening I may have got some of the facts mixed up in the previous paragraph. or did I? And at this point I shall make preparations for the establishment of a fund for victims of Pop Factor, X Idol and Britain's got Trabants.

Good grief you've nearly filled the chuffing page with this guff..... the gongs, THE GONGS!? - Ed

Oh yes, the presentation evening.

Presentation Evening
Was kindly hosted by The Cricketers Inn and was well attended. The food was ok with no complaints to date, although this may be memory failing again.

Mr Chairman gave a speech of passing interest which was of around sixteen minutes in length, before Mrs Chairman arrived to dish out the gongs.
William de Cani was awarded the 1st team batting trophy for his 792 runs at an average of 66. William finished as the leading runs corer in the Division and has been invited to sample one of the principle fleshpots of Basingstoke, The Apollo hotel where the Hampshire Cricket League Presentation Evening will take place this year.

Thanks were given to everyone who puts so much effort into the summer season, coaches, grounds people, umpires, scorers, tea people and the committee before everyone went home having had their fill of the day.

Winchester Warriors Presentation Evening
A large contingent of Longparish Colts attended the Rose Bowl late last month for the Winchester and District Presentation Evening, Hampshire skipper, Jimmy Adams was on hand to present the awards and Longparish U15 received their Millard Cup medals after their convincing win over Andover U15, and Longparish U13 received their Barfoot Plate medals after their win over IBM Hursley U13. Congratulations to Jude Cooper-Smith on being named the U11 Division Player of the Year award.

Indoor Cricket

Is all that the name suggests, cricket played indoors, and Longparish will be fielding many sides, seniors and colts throughout the winter in the Winchester indoor league, North Hampshire indoor league and Dummer indoor league. Fixtures can be found on the website, all support welcome

The Ground
Thank you to everyone who turned out to help put the ground to bed. The man with the green machine that has sharp objects  whizzing about behind has yet to arrive, but rest assured his appearance to carry out annual work essential to the maintenance of the square is imminent. Preparations are also being made towards buffing up the nets and talks on a second tier to the south stand are in the early stages, although on reflection I may have misheard this bit at the last meeting.

Sponsors
Following previous appeals, talks are currently underway with potential new sponsors. Negotiations at the moment are very much preliminary and details are being kept closely under the LCC hat.
Potential sponsors, thanks very much for getting in touch we look forward to working with you in the seasons to come.  Expect a press conference/email/aeroplane with banner behind, sometime in the coming months.

Christmas Draw
The Committee are only too aware of the requirement to innovate with regard to this popular annual event, and Ok, holding it in April this year kept the vibe of the thing "fresh" This year sees the draw returns to pre Christmas on the 9th of December but the evening will be given a flash mob feel with the venue announced 24 hrs before on  facespace, twotter, backchat and any other form of social media that may become current in the interim.

All prizes welcome and please buy some tickets, as the amount of money raised will influence the quality and length of the nets hung in the LCC front room.
