Lonparish CC Presentation Hog Roast and Barn Dance a success

The Longparish CC presentation evening Hog Roast and Barn Dance passed off without incident bar the death of a pig and and a few cars on the A303 skidding on pork dripping.
Following many happy years holding the annual bash at The Cricketers Inn, a larger venue had to be found due to increased demand, as a result an army of organizers arrived at the Longparish Community Hall to prepare for the arrival of over a hundred guests. A balloon arch was constructed, a bar installed and tables laid. 
Food was served, Pork, potatoes and roasted veg consumed before all present fell upon the fantastic array of puddings, the opening hour played out in front of a slide show of the great and the good of Longparish Cricket in action during 2010.
Mr Chair spoke of momentum, sponsors BSI and Wessex Petroleum were thanked, along with scorers, tea wallahs, umpires and groundspersons, and then the gongs were dished out.
Ross Stewart picked up the 1st team batting cup for his 390 odd runs for the first team not to mention his haul of wickets.
Barry Blackmore was awarded the 1st team bowling cup after taking 26 wickets, which included six wickets in one match.
The 2nd team batting cup, the "Martin Bearpark trophy" was awarded to Martin Bearpark - well it is his trophy!
U15 Ben Gardner took the 2nd team bowling honours after taking 24 wickets  including a hat trick.
The fielder of the year award was one of the toughest decisions  for many years, evergreen George Kousseff held off stiff challenges from several younger to take the honours.
The midweek player of the year award was once again awarded to Stuart Tognarelli.
The Henry Herbert Cup awarded to the young player of the year, went to U15 captain William de Cani, who also scored a hundred for the second team and over 300 runs for the first team.
The Champagne moments were divided between Ben Gardner for his hat trick, and U15 Michael Taplin for reaching his first hundred with a six.

Colts Cordinator Justin Jackman and all his helpers, in particular U11 coach Martin Bearpark were thanked for all of their hard work over the year and the Colts' achievements highlighted.
Longparish U11s were paraded and drew huge applause for their successful season in which they lost only two league games and reached the Oliver Plate final for the second year in succession.  U11 Captain Billy Mead was congratulated on his selection for Hampshire U11 and Scott Sturt for his appearances for the Winchester and District side.
Longparish U15 sloped to the front to receive the plaudits for their exploits during the past twelve months in which they finished level on points with Yateley A at the top of the North Hampshire U15 indoor league and were crowned champions of the Winchester and District U16 indoor league.  They also finished runners up outdoors in the Winchester and District top division and were denied a title deciding game with champions St Cross A by the weather and school holidays. They also won the BSI six a side competition. William de Cani and Brad Aldridge were congratulated on their performances for the Winchester and District side and subsequent invitation to attend trials for the Hampshire U16 squad.
The final trophy to be awarded was the Longparish CC Fantasy Cricket League trophy, which went to Alex Coetzee's "Coetzee's Crusaders", who finished 7 points in front of Ray Smith's "Rays Rioja Royals" Thanks to all who entered teams in this year's competition.
Gongs done,tables cleared and pork fat mopped from the floor, enter stage left Mr Puffet for a couple of hours of fun and frolics barn dance style! Two hours of whirling and twirling, the odd dosey doe, the occasional arch and some "in for four out for four". Once again the U15s excelled, and participated with gusto, and developed a useful pre match warm up routine. Others threw some unusual shapes, Warren Bonathon busted some extreme moves while many finished the night flummoxed by the complications of dancing in an agricultural setting.
Done and dusted by 11pm most wobbled home to reflect on a fun evening for all ages.
