March 2017
But before the guff, an appeal from the Longparish CC General Committee. .
Our treasurer's report at the recent AGM was a grim piece that revealed that Longparish CC are currently flying by the seat of our pants with the coffers in a parlous state.
It may be Brexit, it may be Trump it may be El Nino, we don't know,
but without a much appreciated and generous anonymous donation, Harry Martin's efforts running around the New Forest, our new sponsor Floatron and a cake sale and raffle the gescheft would undoubtedly have gone mechula.
Kids we need coin,
For ground maintenance, pitch preparation, colts equipment, training equipment, stumps, cricket balls, machinery, and much more besides.
Anybody with any ideas how to gain coin pleased don't be a stranger, there will be an emergency meeting of the finance wing (which currently doubles up as the General Committee) later this month. If you have any schemes or are able to contribute in any way please let Mr Chairman know.
Previous financial indabas have drawn inspiration from Barnados, Guide Dogs for the Blind and the Spastics Society, with the proposal of a series of hollow half size cricketers with pleading eyes and a slot in their head to be placed outside all good newsagents. A Flag Day was also mooted along with a coffee morning and a large hairless man spending twenty four hours in a bath full of baked beans. Which may betray an age demographic, be alien to a new breed and an indication that fresh input and ideas are required regarding this matter. Younger minds and a more modern approach may be the key to raising money for a club who have always taken the view that match fees and membership be kept as reasonable as is feasible in order to make the game available to as many as possible of all ages in a safe environment.
Spelling it out in words free of guff. We need more people and new people to step forward with ideas and actions as to how to generate more income for the club,
Please don't be a stranger.
To the Guff.

Longparish Lightweights
Michael Taplin and Callum Giles both mowed 45 and William Samways 37 in a convincing 56 run win over the Haymakers and the Lightweights nailed a spectacular 4 wicket win over league leaders Hook Hammers due in part to 28 from Michael Taplin, 25 from William Samways and 16 from Jack Levy.

Longparish U13
Were all set to take on the mighty Andover U13, but they couldn't make it, which was a shame as the colt's indoor season is a sparse one with few scheduled games. Hohum
The Ground
Wikipedia teaches us that the ground is the earth's surface, soil or an electrical earthing system, while Madhur Jaffrey has it as the subsequent spoils of bashing spices about in a mortar and pestle.
It is clear that it is many things to many people, but to LCC members it is the large expanse of green at the end of a short bumpy track that is inevitably prepared for what event is about to take place be it match day or practice, and we thank Blackie and the might of Alan for that.
The ground will be roused from its' slumbers on March 25th. All welcome from 10 am to put the face back on the old girl..
AGM
Following the news from Mr Treasurer the piece descended into a gloomy affair, sparsely attended with all the usual faces filling the usual positions, the evening ended with a subdued rendition of Valjean's death.
Thank you very much to all on the Committee who put so much time and effort into Longparish Cricket Club.
Hundred Club Draw - March
hank you to everyone who wrote in with their font of first choice to herald the winners of this month's hundred club draw.
A Mr T Waite writes:
"Calibri Light is a particularly evocative font for me as it is very similar to the font used on the open and close valve on the radiator in Beirut to which I was chained for many years. They are not happy memories and I have an aversion to central heating as a result but all the same it was an important period in my life and serves as a reminder that the path forward must always be a peaceful one preferably with under floor heating, open fires or an extra jumper."
Thanks Terry, it is a great thing that you do and a life well lived, Calibri Light it is
