May  2016

The new outdoor season is underway and the push for further efficiencies regarding the club newsletter continues. Social media teaches us that there is a worldwide shortage of vowels.  This may well be the EU's doing, or possibly a backlash to the work of 80's pop combo -Freeez (google them kids) but we should not be too quick to apportion blame, we are where we are. As a result,  the club (ever the vanguard when it comes to modern matters) has taken the difficult decision to limit the use of vowels "en communiqué" in order to make more of the letters A, E, I, O and U  available to the wider world.

Consequently,  there now follows a vowel free report of club movements throughout the previous month.

Lngprsh II

Were drawn away at Rowledge III, a team from across the county line and sited on a rich seam of vowels ruthlessly exploited via an extensive series of mines (phew - ed)

Batting first Longparish II were dismissed for 209 in the 40th over with Dan Bearpark striking 51 and Barry Blackmore 52. Callum Giles starred for Longparish with the ball taking 3 for 38 as Rowledge III passed the target with 3 wickets and 4 balls remaining.

Longparish III

Had a bye in the first week of the Hampshire League campaign, and remain unbeaten.

NVKO National Village Cup

And this seems like a good place to bury bad news, but Longparish were knocked out away at Tichborne Park. Which was a shame, but hey. Good luck to Tichborne Park in the remainder of the competition.

 Moving on.

Longparish Midweek 20/20

In the opening skirmishes of the Tichborne Trophy, Longparish beat Chawton by 7 wickets with Scott Sturt and Jordan Blackmore in the wickets and William Samways top scoring with 39.

The opening game of the league campaign saw Longparish triumph by 4 wickets over Willow Tree, with Harry Martin taking 3 wickets and William Samways tonking an unbeaten 23.

Longparish U15

Longparish U15 took on IBM Hursley in their opening game of the season, batting first and closing on 76 for 7 from their 18 overs with Callum Giles top scoring with 27. Tally O'Farrell and Cameron Proctor picked up a wicket each, Jordan Blackmore took 3 for 11 and Callum Giles 4 for 9 as Longparish U15 secured a 27 run win with 6 overs remaining.

Longparish U13

Began their league campaign away at IBM Hursley. Oliver Wills hit 28 with the bat, Oliver Oram 20 and Harry Cardno and Harvey Randall picked up wickets but could not prevent IBM Hursley U13 securing an 8 wicket win

Longparish U11

Have had two league games cancelled, but eventually got going against St Cross who batted first. Alfie Smith, Kieron Smith, Finn Jannaway, Harry Randall, Cameron Wigmore and Zac Allen all took wickets and Alfie Smith top scored with the bat but could not prevent a narrow defeat to the Winchester side.

Longparish Friendly/Sunday

Have seen William Samways, Scott Sturt and Michael Taplin score unbeaten half centuries against Amport and wickets for Harry Samways and Callum Giles in the same fixture. Alex Brinton was in the wickets against Compton & Chandlers Ford a game in which Dan Bearpark hit 56. Nathan Smith took 3 for 20 against Hook and Ben Gardner and Matt Jackman scored runs and in the tie with St Mary Bourne, Jordan Blackmore top scored with 65, James Young hit a season best 27, Brendon Tasker, Adam Seidman and Michael Taplin bagged a brace of wickets each and Christian Dawson took 3 for 11. The result rarely matters on a Sunday, it's all about enjoying the game and hopefully finding form. Thanks to Ray Smith for organising the Sunday fixture list.

Injury List

Scott Sturt:    Serious cramp

The doofus who does the outfield:   Insect bite

Warren Bonathan:    Sore leg

Neil Bonathan:    Dicky hip. He'll deny it of course, but it was clear when he left the field at the end of the opening game of this season that something was awry with the rolling farmer's gait. Pictures to follow, possibly X Rays.

George Kousseff:   Ruptured achilles following incident with the most dangerous of fruit - the butternut squash ( I think that's what the Doctor's notes said that were pinned to the end of his bed)

To all of the above, on behalf of everyone at the club, get well soon.

Waitrose Community Matters

As does cousin Ocado and its' friends. Thanks once again to Waitrose for including Longparish CC in the green token fund raising scheme at the Longstock Nursery, and thanks to Katrina Samways for putting the club forward and monitoring  the levels of each container throughout the month. To Katrina's eye the three containers were roughly level on the last day of the month,  which means the club will receive around a third of a thousand pounds, or a third of a speed boat/caravan if Jim Bowen now sits on the Waitrose board.

Either of which are much appreciated, and thank you very much to Waitrose for supporting cricket at all levels.

The Ground

Is finally drying out, but grass is now having a high old time of it and away from match day, there is rarely an hour when mowers are not at work somewhere around the ground. Well done to the bunch of volunteers who dedicate so much of their time to making the Longparish ground such a great place to play, watch and generally enjoy the game of cricket, particularly Paul Blackmore for his work on the square and Alan Longden for his perpetual quest to defeat the forces of growing grass with his green and yellow mowers. Help always welcome around the ground.

Membership farms

Continue to be a communist ideal in which each member hopes to harvest an equal number of turnips, but there will always be suspicions.

Membership forms

Should have been filled in and returned, along with the relevant payment for subscriptions.

For those who have already stumped up their subscription, thank you. There is an open invitation for prompt payers to meet on a far corner of the outfield and sit, cross legged, lacing daisies into one another's hair.

Case Closed

Roll credits. New sponsors logo and cue Eric and Ernie singing bring me sunshine

With hindsight, rolling credits and costs incurred for M&W royalties proved a bridge too far, but here's the sponsor's logo once more, and thanks again Floatron.

 Hundred Club Draw - May

Let the records show that hundred club numbers were generated via binary code, digital displays or possibly an app. After decades of service, the tumbley drum,  brim full of wooden balls has been put out to pasture beyond the outfield where it will see out its remaining years in clover.

To mark this passing of the tides,  hundred club winners will now be displayed in an edgy font
