Frank Hibberd
Club Vice President, Frank
Hibberd who gave great service to Longparish Cricket Club over many years, has
sadly passed away. Frank undertook numerous roles at Longparish Cricket Club,
scoring for both the 1st XI, 2nd XI and indoor teams for many years and also
for the Longparish Colts teams when they took to the field at Trojans almost a
decade ago. A keen supporter of all the Longparish sides, Frank served
extensively on the Longparish Cricket Club Committee. He wrote, produced and
delivered two hundred editions of the LCC Newsletter and for many years
combined with Ken Ball to provide weekly match reports for the local papers. He
was instrumental in the formation of the Hundred Club, which has raised vital
funds for the club over many years and he also represented the club at
innumerable Hampshire Cricket League meetings.
Frank and his family made an
enormous contribution to life at Longparish Cricket Club both during times of
great success and also through leaner times, and the fact that the club remains
today and continues to thrive is due in no small part to their efforts.
Winchester & District
Indoor Leagues.
Longparish I
In the top division Longparish
started well with a 2 wicket win over Easton & MW in which William de Cani
was unbeaten on 35 and Michael Taplin 25. The game against Fair Oak didn't go
quite to plan as Longparish failed to chase a below par 104 by 36 runs despite
an excellent 27 for Harry Martin. Normal service resumed against Hursley Park
who were thumped by 4 wickets with Matt Jackman taking 4 for 26 and also
hitting an unbeaten 26.
Longparish II
Martin Savage picked up a
wicket in the season opener for Longparish II in which Georg Kousseff hit an
unbeaten 45 to secure a 1 wicket win. An agonising 2 run defeat followed
against Owslebury despite wickets for Barry Blackmore and Martin Savage and 39
runs for Georg Kousseff and 19 for Dan Pomroy.
Longparish III
Longparish III began their
winter campaign with a four wicket win over Wherwell in which Dan Bearpark,
Harry Samways and Jamie Blackmore picked up wickets and Dan Bearpark top scored
with 25. Winchester University II were beaten by 23 runs thanks to Runs for Dan
Bearpark, 24 and William Samways,26 and wickets for Gary Taplin, Jamie
Blackmore and Dan Bearpark. An exciting end to the game with Bishops Waltham
saw Harry Samways score the runs required off the final ball of the match to
secure a four wicket set up by an unbeaten 26 from Dan Bearpark and 27 for
William Samways.
Dummer Indoor Cricket Leagues
Longparish Lightweights
William de Cani picked up a
wicket and top scored with an unbeaten 27 in the 3 wicket win over Oakley, and
hit an unbeaten 34 in the following game against Hook along with Michael
Taplin, 25, Scott Sturt,27 and Ben Gardner 25 in a convincing 4 wicket win. Vodafone
were beaten after Ben Gardner struck 42, Scott Sturt 37 and Harry Martin 25,
Gardner also took two wickets in a 104 run win.
Profligacy in the field cost the Lightweights dear in the following game
against Alton who scored twenty odd runs more than they should have done. The
batting didn't quite go to plan either as league leaders Longparish
Lightweights slumped to a surprise 13 run defeat.
Longparish Longhops
The Longhops began their
campaign by scoring a mammoth 212 against Ramsdell with Dan Bearpark striking
36, Jamie Blackmore 40, Callum Giles, 36 and Alex Brinton, 27 in a 159 run win.
A tighter tie with Nokia followed in which Dan Bearpark top scored with 37 and
Dan Pomroy scored 25 in a 10 run win. Jamie Blackmore took 3 for 33 against a
super strong Yateley side who ran out winners by 13 runs. The Longhops returned to winning ways the
following week with a 4 wicket win over Candovers.
Longparish Lappas
The Lappas started the season
with a win over St Mary's in which William Samways hit a brilliant unbeaten 70,
Harry Samways added 36 and Gary Taplin took 2 wickets. Harry Samways was in the runs again against Addidazzlers
with 37 and Paul Blackmore added 21. Jordan Blackmore and Gary Taplin picked up
wickets to secure a 56 run win.
Longparish U15
Tally O'Farrell picked up the
first wicket of the Longparish U15 winter campaign against Hook U15 but Alex
Bundy was the star of the show with the ball taking 3 for 15 in a 5 wicket win
that also saw William Samways strike 30 and Callum Giles 25. William Samways
good form continued in the match with Fair Oak U15 where he scored an unbeaten
45. Jordan Blackmore added 35 and Bailey Sampson-Bridgen took 2 for 9 in an
impressive 115 run win.
