Club Doofus nominated for award

09 Jul 2013

A promising cricket career at Longparish CC was brought to a premature close today with Chris de Cani’s nomination for a HCB award for services to cricket “behind the scenes “

de Cani, who has yet to be dismissed in his appearances for high flying  Longparish and would bowl if required, was typically non committal on hearing of his nomination.

“I understand most promising newcomer was not on the cards, but I was a shoe in for fielder of the year?”

The award ceremony will be held on 24th July at the Hampshire Asos Bowl, where red carpets will be trod, spotlights waggled about and fine fayre consumed before presentations, port, and bunga bunga.

The SPL 20/20 final between Burridge and S Wilts (free entry and parking) will be held simultaneously and may provide a welcome distraction from de Cani’s acceptance speech which promises to be interminable.

A spokesman for the nominee (who had wandered off, as he is increasingly prone to do)  said:

“Chris is delighted to be nominated for the award, Longparish CC are a great cricket club to be associated with, and a lot of fun to boot.

If successful on the night, all prize money will fund the construction of a media centre replete with air conditioning, sky tv, and a fridge full of cold cuts and beer”

Thanks for the nomination, there are many at the club more deserving
