Bramshaw VKO v Longparish Cricket Club Longparish Friendly on Sun 01 May 2011 at 2.00pm
Longparish Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
For the first time in some years, Longparish progressed through to the regional quarter finals of The National Vilage Cup Competition. Drawn away to Bramshaw a side who play in the Division above Longparish In the Hampshire League. Bramshaw batted first and piled on early runs with some big hitting at the top of the order. Paul Blackmore took a superb diving catch at slip off the bowling of Chris Clarke to pick up the first wicket for 74. Three wickets then fell to Ross Stewart and two to Matt Jackman as the Bramshaw innings faltered at 136 for 7 but some lusty 74 from Bramshaw number eight Tim Rogers got his side to a respectable 267 for 8.
In a perfectly paced reply Longarish put on 74 for the first wicket before Paul Blackmore departed for 38. Chris Clarke was "on a promise" so rose up the order to bat at three and subsequently battered a magnificent 62 from 40 odd balls before deaprting. At the other end, after a stodgy start against a swinging ball, William de Cani batted on. Stuart Tognarelli came and went for a quick 18 and for a brief moment the required run rate rose above 8 an over but a quick- fire 15 from Matt Jackman and some excellent running in partnership with de Cani soon pulled the rate down. Victory was secured with nine balls remaining as de Cani struck a boundary taking him to an unbeaten century and Longparish through to a tie with Ropley or Hursley Park.
