Longparish win away at Eversley in the National Village Knock Out Competition

21 May 2012

Longparish batted first on a damp and spongy Eversley track losing the early wicket of "in form" opener William de Cani to the impressive Eversley speedster Osman Ali. Last picked his way through the Longparish middle order and Chris Clarke biffed a few late runs, but it was skipper Paul Blackmore who starred with the bat, opening the innings and unbeaten on 56 at the close as Longparish posted 133. U17 Alex Coetzee picked up the early wicket of Last but Ollie Buriano batted patiently at the other end as wickets fell to an effervescent fielding display by the young Longparish side. Martin Bearpark took 3 superb catches behind the stumps and Buriano was skillfully run out with a huge throw from the deep. Eversley slowly edged towards victory but the introduction of U17 Ben Gardner to the attack proved decisive as he took 4 for 30 from 7 overs. With 1 wicket remaining and 12 runs required for victory, opener Coetzee returned to the attack and picked up the wicket of last man Thomson courtesy of a slick catch by Martin Savage to take Longparish through to a regional semi final against Tichbourne or Easton on June 3rd.
